Hope in Misery

Updated: Feb 23, 2024

A princess delicately peered at the castle’s courtyard from her bedroom. She was not keened for tomorrow’s event. An event that will unite two complete strangers. Strangers that never set eyes a upon each other. A wedding planned to bring more power to their already rich family. The prince will be profit.

Retreating into her bedroom, she inhaled deeply withholding tears. She thought of herself as a puppet. No one to turn to, the feeling of helpless. Is this the life she must endure? Royalty is not beautiful; the glamour hides the ugliness. Her father lusting over mistresses, mother depress and bitter, siblings force to do the biding of the elders. All had one common interest! But all the princess want is freedom. To love deeply and to be loved, and the freedom to dictate her life. She swallows hard and gazed into the sunset. Whispering a prayer of hope.

Whoever can hear my cry, I beg for freedom. Love, and freedom are what I want, and

time is not on my side.”

( A head risen from its slumber as it hears the female cry for help. An image of the princess was clear in its mind. The pull to save her was strong, and so was the need to love her. It found it’s soulmate. )

The day has arrived. Everyone is bustling on the wedding’s preparation. The princess was sitting while her maids tended to her hair and dress. None of her family members came to see her. She knew they were mingling with the others to solidify their reputation & position. The Princess cry within, unable to settle her repulsive feeling for what is to come after the wedding. But suddenly electric sensations began shooting throughout her body, and one of the maids facing her freeze. When she regains her composure, she whispered nervously.

Miss., your eyes. They changed color.”

With a twist of her neck the princess faced the vanity mirror. Nothing was odd with her eyes. She returns her gaze back on the maid.

Please Miss., spare me. Your eyes where a mix of green and gold a second ago. I swear.” She disparately replied.

The princess allowed the electric sensation to settle before she warmly replies.

It’s okay, it could have been a reflection of some sort. Don't worry.”

Giving into the princess conclusion, the maid abandons the conversation by continuing the preparation. But she still shows signs of nervousness.

The beautiful bride stood at the doorway that led to the ceremony. But before she began walking, she peered at all the suppose noble men and women. All she really saw was hungry wolfs, sitting and waiting for their prize. And the pack's leader were her parents. A pain in her chest made her cover her heart. Knowing family should not be this way. Witnessing servants with their loved ones made her believe love is beautiful, and worth having. She admires them the most. Through her anguish, she heard a gentle deep male voice.

I heeded your cry, dear. Love and freedom are what I offer. But do not be frightened with the form I take. Stretch your arms and reach for the sky.

The voice aroused her in a way she never thought possible. She was breathing deeply by the effects of the voice. She looked around seeking the person who whispered to her. 'Reach for the sky', ' do not be frightened with the form I take.'?

At this point she will do anything to get out of this horrendous arranged marriage. He offered love and freedom, and that is what she wished for.

As she began to glide alone into the courtyard, she saw the prince. He is a lot older than her. At the age of 18 being forced to marry a 35-year-old, is loathsome. Once in sight everyone stood. As she reaches the middle of the aisle she halted. Dropping her bouquet, she looked at all the confused wolfs, and slowly fluidly raised her arms to the sky, like he said.

Suddenly, a roar was heard from behind the castle, and everyone immediately ducked except the princess. She kept her arms reaching to the sky, with her eyes tightly shut. All she felt was hope. Everyone who ducked stared at her odd behavior, and simultaneously nervously searching their surroundings. A red dragon flew from behind one of the towers. Circled once before descending, extending his hind legs that held his deadly talons. The Princess opened her eyes while keeping her arms up with no hesitation. Instead of seeing a disgusting creature like the rest of them, she saw a spectacular beast. Some of the knights started charging in, in attempt to save the princess. But before the knights reached her, she was lifted and held in the clutches of the dragon. While surrounded by sharp dangerous talon, he held her with delicateness.

As he flew further away with her, she saw in the distances the wolfs panicking.

After some time, her kingdom is nowhere in sight. After crossing a large ocean, she catches glimpse of land. They approach a large remote island. He begins to descend at a caves entrance, within a large mountain.

He placed her gently on the cliff. She is captivated and watches him as he circled, for a landing. As his hind legs hit the ground he transforms to his human form. He was bare. She blushed at the sudden sight of his lack of modesty. He walked up to her as he said,

You are of my kind, finding one’s soulmate awakens their dragon’s spirit. Soon, you will transform like I do. No one will harm you, for this island is enchanted. All they see is ocean and a need to circle back.

She faced him with need and happiness. Fear is nowhere in sight. Comfort and happiness took residence. She knew he spoke the truth and is relieved to have left her empty corrupted world behind. Her soul recognized him, from past lives. She was not facing a stranger, but her mate.

The End.
